Burzenski & Company Celebrates 35 Years of Business with a 35 for 35 Campaign

This year, Burzenski & Company, PC, is celebrating its 35th anniversary.

Throughout the years, the greater New Haven community and giving back have been core passions of Burzenski & Company, PC and its employees. The firm has been recognized for its service and dedication many times over, through its volunteerism and commitment to a variety of non-profit organizations.

In turn, to celebrate our 35th year in business, Burzenski & Company has launched a 35 for 35 campaign—a commitment to completing small but powerful actions throughout the year to reward the community that has so graciously supported our business.

In recent weeks we have made donations to American Society for the Prevention of Suicide and Breast Cancer Awareness. Other activities planned over the course of our 35th year, will be to donate items and staff time for special projects at local charities related to these five areas: animals, children, elderly, disabled/homeless and military/veterans.

According to managing partner, Bill Kalinowski, CPA, “We are pleased to kick off our 35 for 35 Campaign in the greater New Haven region to support local charities, brighten the lives of school children, families and the elderly, help a local animal shelter care continue their valuable work, respond to the needs of the homeless and other nonprofit organizations. Our community has been an integral part of our history … and it is our pleasure to be able to support various initiatives as part of our 35th year celebration.”

He continues, “We also take this time to contemplate the relationships we have formed over the past 35 years, the longevity of so many clients and the paths we have taken together. We are proud to have built our respected reputation by working with so many remarkable individuals, families and businesses of diverse size and scope.”

Starting January 1, 2024, a significant number of businesses will be required to comply with the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA). The CTA requires the disclosure of the beneficial ownership information (otherwise known as “BOI”) of certain entities from individuals who own or control a company. Under the CTA, BOI reports will not be filed with the IRS, but with the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) https://www.fincen.gov/. This law affects many small businesses and legal entities, including veterinary practices and real estate entities that own veterinary practice facilities. The law requires the reporting of detailed information about individuals affiliated with these companies, who ultimately own and/or control them. Please understand: IGNORING the filing requirements will result in severe punishment, including fines of $591 for each day of noncompliance (as of 2024, and annually inflation adjusted), up to $10,000, and up to two years imprisonment.

To help taxpayers with filing, the Internal Revenue Service today debunked some common myths to help taxpayers understand what to do with Form 1099-K. Following feedback from partners and to help avoid taxpayer confusion, the IRS announced in Nov. 2023, that the reporting threshold for Form 1099-K, Payment Card and Third Party Network Transactions, would not change for 2023. The reporting threshold requirements remain over $20,000 in payments and over 200 transactions. The IRS continues to see misinformation circulating about why taxpayers may or may not have received a Form 1099-K. Here are some common scenarios involving these forms. More information is also available at IRS.gov for what to do with Form 1099-K and frequently asked questions.
